Easter Sunday Brunch ‘08

April 3rd, 2008 by goatrocktexas

This year’s Easter Sunday Brunch was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended.  Many local families attended bringing visiting relatives from as far as Brisbane, Millmerran, Ashord, just to name a few.  The kids as usual had a great time eating Easter Eggs (as well as Brunch!) and playing and enjoying the beautiful rocks.

Canadians visit Texas, Qld

February 27th, 2008 by goatrocktexas

On Saturday 23rd February, Goat Rock hosted a camp oven dinner as a finale to the annual Canadian visit to Texas. Our visitors toured the Whyalla Feedlot, Silver Mine, and local agricultural enterprise owned by the Coventry family. They also had time to wander around and sample the views of Texas.

Before going to Goat Rock, they had a hands on experience with sheep shearing and wool handling at the Croft’s wool shed. Locals joined the group for a fantastic three course camp oven dinner, bush poetry by Jim Brown and music by The Rabbit Trappers. The Texas State School P&C benefited from a charity auction of Australian and Canadian items. An enjoyable and fun night was had by all, with the Canadians vowing to return next year.

Australia Day 2008 at Goat Rock

February 5th, 2008 by goatrocktexas

BusesOn Saturday 26th January 2008, Australia Day was celebrated in style at Goat Rock.  Over 100 people, including a bus from Toowoomba and a bus from the Gold Coast, celebrated with an Aussie BBQ Buffet lunch including wattleseed blinis, steak marinated in Dumaresq Valley wine and wattleseed pavlova.  Jim Brown, from Inverell, was our Bush Poet for the afternoon and as always entertained the crowd and kept the laughs going.  A fantastic afternoon was had by all.

The Bonshaw CWA held an Australian Trivia afternoon afterwards and six teams competed.  Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and found that they didn’t know a great deal about our own country!  Thanks to everyone that supported the CWA in their fundraising efforts.

Later in the afternoon we threw brooms and tossed thongs to see how far we could get them.  Everyone joined in, with the winners taking home Australian beer glasses and a pair of Aussie thongs!  Dinner was a barbie and lots of music and dancing afterwards.  Thanks to everyone who joined in and enjoyed themselves.
